Urgent need for Mature Owl Finch

Post by doertel » Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:23 pm

If anyone knows where I can buy a male owl finch, preferably one that is at least four years old, please answer this email. My owl finch cock died last Sunday and his mate continues to look for him and desperately call out for him. I am afraid she will exhaust herself if I can't calm her down. This was a very close pair. I don't know what to do except get her another mate, but I don't even know if she will take to another mate. Ideally, I would like to find a cock that has lost his hen, but I am open to other options.

I probably will never know what was wrong with my lost owl finch. He never stopped eating, flyin, etc. The only clues were his lethargy and his missing feathers on his back, broken tail feather, baldness. He was eight years old, so maybe he died of old age. Does anyone know how long owl finches live?

I live in St. Paul, MN and am willing to travel to a location in the midwest. I would also consider shipping. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks,
Diane

try and locate your nearest avian vet. they should be able to help you with the names of breeders in your area.

Sorry to hear about your male. My guess would be old age - eight is definitely getting up there. If you can't find an owl I would suggest a society. They're easy to find and just like owls are very cuddly. Good luck!
