Goldbreasted waxbill question
It's been two weeks with having a pair of GB waxbills.
Everytime I set one foot into the bird room, they freak out and fly around their cage complete afraid of me.
Does this species ever calm down? This current narotic behavior is driving me nuts. Should I have just stuck with Gouldians?

Re: Goldbreasted waxbill question
I have a pair that I have had for a little over a year. The first six months, I seldom saw them because they stayed in the tree. Now they are out and even when I go in to clean , they fly around me. I think they will calm down, but they will never be anything like the gouldians. They are very skittish.

gold breasted & orange breasted are almost the same bird, I have the latter. mine were very nervous and flighty for the first few months in the aviary but have now settled down. when I put out fresh mealworm they come down within a couple of feet of me waiting to be thrown a couple which they duly sit and eat (I guess this is there way of getting a couple of extra worms
). they only fly off if I make a sudden move. my rccb's dont come any closer than 6 feet and wait for me to leave the aviary before eating

Re: Goldbreasted waxbill question
Mine only freaked out for the first couple of days. Mind you, they are in the living room, so are exposed to my comings and goings a lot. They had to get used to it pretty quickly. I even vacuum around the cage and they just keep eating!atarasi wrote:It's been two weeks with having a pair of GB waxbills.

What seems to help is definitely all the treats I put in the cage. They are so anxious to see what's in there that they'll come back to the perch to see what's in there, even when I'm standing by the cage. But they are still more nervous than the society's were. I guess they are learning to "tolerate" me, but they are never going to be as relaxed when I'm near as the Societies were..
