Society/Bengalese Finches - How many?
My lanai-dwelling male society finch Perry lost his long-term boyfriend Trillian and because you cannot have a lone finch, we introduced 2 friends. Both turned out to be girls. Is it my imagination or is it possible that one of the girls is the odd one out? Nobody is aggressive, but it seems that Gemimah-Geraldine is not as welcome in the nest as Florentina. Is 3 a bad number for Societies or am I just being overly worried?

Andrea
Hi Andria.
Societies will accept a fifth wheel so to speak. However, if you want GG to be happy, I would get her a friend as well. If you have a bonding pair in a nest, they are probably anxious to get down to business. * Be prepared for eggs and babies.
Good luck.

Trios will work but the "pair" may spend more time with each other. You could round it out with another male.
Amethyst Starling
BF and RT Parrot Finch
Chestnut-breasted Mannikin
Lady Gouldian
Owl Finch
Shaft-tail Finch
Society Finch
Star Finch
Strawberry
Tri-colored Nun
Zebra Finch
Diamond Dove
Bourke & Scarlet-chested Parakeet

usually trio will get on great, but there are exceptions. i had a trio last year and the male was super aggressive to the 'spare' female. i got a second male and paired the original male with the 'spare' hen and they settled to breed but as soon as there were eggs he became possessive and territorial towards the hen and i had to remove her. he hatched the eggs himself but abandoned the chicks
i moved the hen in with the other pair and they lived happily as a trio for many months, breeding well.

Thank you everybody for the advice. I guess a 4th one it is. Sadly my only source is a pet store and I will try my best to find her a boyfriend. If not I hope even numbers will help.
