I have enough bowls in my cage so that each canary can eat at their own dish (the linnies and the doves get a dish for each pair because they eat as couples). The only time the canaries share is when they are getting ready to mate, the male might wait while the female eats, but otherwise they are greedy ;)
I see o_o well I'll keep the canaries to a minimum from now on...
I will focus on peaceful colonial birds more

oh what are linnies?

mondo. Sorry, didn't see this post. Linnies are lineolated parakeets, also called barred parakeets or Catherine parakeets. They are a small hookbill about the size of a lovebird. They are very mellow parakeets that are extremely social.

mondo I find most small hookbills seem fine with finches in aviaries, my lot share with 4 budgies and a cockatiel.

Linnies do very well with my canaries. when I was looking for a hookbill that did well with finches, I found linnies. They are usually kept with finches in aviaries. During breeding, I separate them because they take apart the canary nest...they think it's a toy to be shredded :)

WHAT!!! O___O does this include budgies? I bet not LOL
I'll see if these "linnies" can be trusted around my finches
buuuut I'll still be fine without them I bet ^^ canaries are tame and friendly enough

I just hope my local bird market has them... though I bet they don't haha

they seriously are fine with small dainty birds like finches? no introduction or adapting necessary?

Any hookbill you need to be cautious with including linnies. Some have good luck with them others do not. Hookbills can inflict serious injury or worse upon finches especially if breeding them in the same flight. Hookbills can become quiet territorial when in breeding mode and way to curious as to what is in the fiches' nests. That includes even some bourkes and scarlets.
