Gold Breasted Waxbill mate

Post by phoebefinch » Tue Dec 23, 2008 9:40 pm

Hi! Haven't been around much lately, but I've been doing a lot of reading. I was originally planning on getting finches in a couple of months, but someone who works with a friend of mine has a one year old male gold breasted waxbill that he is willing to give me for free. He just has the one though and they don't seem to be common around here (at least not according to a quick search I've done over the past few days). Are there any other species that I could get to go with him? Would I be best to get a female, or does it matter? I'm only interested in keeping two birds for the time being, as I don't have a big enough cage yet.

Thanks for any suggestions and happy holidays!
-owned by a little house sparrow and 2 owl finches :)

If you have to get another species, I'd try for another male. It all depends on what is available in your area, but most of the waxbills would be OK, definitely not any of the pushy or aggressive species. Even a Society would be OK, though a big difference in size.
3 Purple Grenadiers, 1 Goldbreast + 1 cat.
