First time parents “Canaries” weren’t doing good but also where doing good. She laid 5 eggs. She did a great job sitting on them and he did good feeding her. But when the first one hatched I found it at the bottom of the cage.

It was fine. It had not been there long. I put it back into the nest. There it did stay and they fed it. When the second one hatch it was fine but today I found it dead and on the bottom too.

There where more eggs left, but I decided to give them to a mother that was very good at it. She just started to nest and only had 2 eggs. This is their first time and I think they almost got it. The one chick was the same age as the chicks in the cage below them. That first time mother is doing great.

So the chick is with them now. I’m going to let them try again. I don’t like to mess with them rather like them to do it themselves. I feel this next time will be a lot better.

It's most likely the cock tossing the chicks in eagerness to breed again, an option would be to remove the cock before next clutch hatches and let the hen rear chicks alone which is no problem for hen canaries.

I think it was a good choice to remove eggs and chick. Let them try again by all means
Eventually, most of them seem to get it.
As Padraic mentioned, if this seems to go on, then you might have to remove your boy for a while.
LOL! You should send your boy to spend some time with my Luciano. Luchi, could give him some lessons in Fatherly duties. He just finished feeding his first two weanies, and now is busy feeding the four half grown babes in the nest.

Looking at your pictures and seeing the male feeding the females just reminds me one of the thing I get a kick out of. The male feeding the female. It's so sweet!

These are his own fledglings that he's feeding in the pictures.
Luciano, is such a good Daddy, that he does about 95% of the feeding once they fledge. When chicks are still in the nest, Luciano and Sofia, share feeding duties about 50/50%.

The male tossing the chicks is what I would think. You can remove the male for about a week, then add him again to help raise the chicks. By this time the chicks are too big to toss and their legs can grip the nest.

Good news. The eggs started to hatch today. There is only 4 eggs. Two hatched. This momma has done 3 of her own nesting and did a great job. I am sure these little guys are in good hands.
