Post by Sunbay » Sat Jul 11, 2015 3:44 pm

Close-banded FIVE parent-raised Purple Grens yesterday.

Held my breath till the parents went back to feed, which they did right away.

Well done, PG mom and dad!!

That's really fantastic news Lauren. I'm so glad to hear this species is doing well for you. Have you lined up prospective mates for these little ones yet?

This is fantastic news, congrats! I know of a breeder who used to have them in San Diego, and he finally got parent-raised after umpteen attempts. He had them in large outside flights/aviaries, so your accomplishment is even more impressive considering that they are raising in indoor flight cages.

Colt, I have other young, unrelated pairs of PG's. One pair is on eggs, again. (the pair that I have the hand-raised one from).

I "co-own" another pair with a friend- actually, the male just died, and the hen is raising 2 chicks on her own. Keeping fingers crossed for them.

So, hopefully, chicks from 3 unrelated pair, for now. Won't "count my chicks before they fledge", though :-)

Bummer to hear about the male. But no kidding on not counting them until they fledge...lol

I really am so happy for you and this species.
