This is my new pair of Japanese Hoso
that I got today as an early birthday
present from my lovely wife Sue!
I love my wife!

They are really cute and tiny, about the size of a Gouldian finch but thinner. I do believe they are the smallest canary of all the varieties?

First, happy birthday! Your birds are too cool. This is the first time I have heard of the species. Very beautiful indeed.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!
Its actually on the 15th but many thanks anyway!

The song is higher and softer pitched than a regular canary, almost like a finch.

The male ( variegated/yellow) is a 2013 bird and the hen ( yellow ) is a 2014.

I gave them an outside nest to see if they would be afraid of it or not and they were fine and curious about it.
I don't expect anything till much later but for now they can be happy together.
