Look what I found this evening!!!
I went into my outdoor aviary this evening to check on everyone and put the nightlight on and kept hearing lots of "tweeting" and looked around sort of concerned about all the ruckus.....and their he/she was!!! OMG....I have had a pair of Senegal Fire finches for a long time that have made nest after nest, after nest, and laid eggs and even hatched a few babies but abandoned EVERY time....I gave up and didn't even know they had another nest. As of tonight I don't even know where their nest is!!! More eggs??? Who cares!!!! I'm so excited. I have a pair of Red Cheek Cordon Blue's that have made a nest and thought maybe it was one of their fledglings. What a surprise!!! I named him/her "Flame"....

Yep....my shiny new birdling! What a surprise tonight. Didn't even know they had a nest...and don't know where it is or if there are any more. I'm so excited to have one baby, I'm not going to search for the nest. Just letting nature takes it's course. So much fun!!!

Yes they are feeding him. I took him inside to band him/her and boy, Mom and Dad were chirping up a storm. This is the farthest I've had any Fires go in rearing their babies. I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed!!!! I don't know why these guys have been so difficult to breed, but so far so good. I'll post more photos of my little "Flame" as he grows! He is very much a FAST, STRONG flier. Had to really hold on to band him.

You know, it's funny, I heared another breeder say, that they had an awful time getting their Fires to breed, lay, hatch, and raise successful clutches.
However, once these kids got going, there was no stopping them..... one clutch after another, successfully raised and weaned. In fact, I've got one of his little girls for my boy Orion. She's only a youngling, but maybe next Spring I'll set them up and we shall see what they do.

Best of luck with your guy Orion and his gal. Hopefully you won't have to wait as long as I did.
