Christo, interesting choice of aviary bird. I assume you have them on permit? What are they like as aviary birds and how big are they compared to standard finch size? I have yet to actually see one in person, even though they are indigenous.

Congrats on the babies and I'm looking forward to seeing pic's of them when they are all grown up :D

Here is some info on them if anyone is interested :)

Rox,
I got them from a friend about 2 or 3 years ago.
They are the size of a Gouldian more or less.
The stay on the ground and will in flight perform almost like a helicopter. Never sit on a perch and always land back on the ground.
I had actually forgotten the name and had to phone him to find out what species they were.
Permit = negative. [shhhht]
Really mix well in the mixed collection. The small quail destroyed quite a fewof their nests so I moved them to another aviary a month ago. They almost immediately started building nest and now the babies.
Will try and post photo of parents shortly.

Regards

Hello Christo.

They are so tiny and fuzzy <3

If you need a permit, I'll write you one (don't know how official it will be, but then who will check :-D :-D :-D) You can tell them, that they are Canadian Dragonfly Finches, 'very rare'

Would love to see the parents.

I pictured them being bigger than that. Looking at the photo's, I thought at least weaver size, if not bigger. Very nice looking birds and would be a great alternative to having quails in the aviary.

Would love to see their helicopter moves :D

Wow! They're little ones!
I'm not too familiar with them; they're very pretty males.

Those little babies are so cute and fuzzy! Congrats on them!

I can imagine the quail were a nightmare for them. Many quail are the avian equivalents of a bull in a china shop with nests and eggs, so I can only imagine!

Keep us posted on how your little ones make out!

Well well.
The 2 babies have disappeared today. Gone with no evidence of anything.
Main suspect - singing quail male. Bastard.

Grrr, I would be so cross! I agree with Marius, make a pie :P

That is why I have avoided getting quails. I don't trust the little buggers. My dad had a huge aviary when I was growing up and the quails would attack the young fledglings when they were on the floor. I'm just not willing to take that risk with my waxbills...
