Re: Confused about Javas
Congratulations...hope they all hatch. To help the parents prepare to feed young provide them with daily eggfood and greens... chopped kale and carrots, veggies. Dark leafy greens and eggfood when the young come...they will eat alot. the dark greens are a great source of folic acid.

Do they usually make good parents? This is my first ever (potential) clutch. I'm feeding egg food daily, greens, etc but should I have anything on hand for when the babies come just in case there is a problem? I've heard of having to feed babies in a pinch and in my area bird supplies can be hard to find. Should I order anything in advance? Thanks!

Re: Confused about Javas
Erin, I find them to be good parents... it does not hurt to have formula on hand just incase something happens and you need to feed out.
I use Roudybush, Zupreem and Lafebers formulas are equally as good. I am personally not a fan of KayTee. They are fairly easy to feed and fun to tame out. To the formula I add a tiny bit of organic unsweetened applesauce and a tiny bit of organic pumkin puree. They love it.
I handfed some out and they were by far the easiest of all my birds to raise.

I was able to find some formula, thanks for the recommendation. They both slept in the nest last night. Cutest ever. I wanted to get a pic but I'm leaving them alone. So here is one from the bath today...they love to bathe together...
