Society finch lifespan

Post by Sojourner » Mon Feb 29, 2016 3:38 pm

So finchinfo says society finches live 4 years on average. Only the initial shock of reading that kept me from bursting in to tears.

Other websites say the average is TEN years, up to 20. 20 seems like a lot, but 4 years seems very very short.

Does anybody know what the average age for societies is?

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

Most of the small Estrildid finches (society, zebra, Gouldian) live between five and ten years, males almost always outlive females because female egg-laying is highly energy-intensive. Fringillid finches like canaries live a little longer on average, 7 - 15 years is more typical, rarely canaries have lived close to twenty years.

Well I guess 5 years is better than 4, especially if you're the finch in question, LOL!

I'll shoot for 10 and hope for 7. Thanks.
