Star Finches

Post by BigBear0007 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 4:33 pm

Hello Everyone,

Anybody keep Star Finches?
I picked up two yesterday in a trade and
I'm sure they are two males.
They red headed one has sung but the yellow hasn't.
Anybody know if Elana is still around (luvzebs), she had some?
I need one at least, hopefully two hens.

Jerry

BigBear0007 Normally with Star males, the red or yellow will occur past the eyes. A really good mask will go well past the eyes. Sometimes, you will find a hen with a larger-than-normal mask, or a male with a smaller-than-normal mask--those are the hard ones to sex. Both birds look like males to me.

Hi Sally,

They are both males, I have heard both of them sing.
The yellow finally sang yesterday afternoon.
So now to get some hens!
Anybody have any? I have two beautiful male gouldians that
I'm willing to trade for a couple Star hens!

Good luck with the search. Stars don't seem to be very common in the Phoenix area. I've been looking and so far the only prospects were a related pair. I'm looking for unrelated pairs so passed on them. These also seemed pricey to me at $80 each which would make it around $100CDN.
Your thought of trading for Gouldians seems a realistic approach if you can find someone to deal with. Have you tried a Kikiji ad or perhaps ebayclassifieds [not the auction site]?
