Awww, but you have to check out the selection of beautiful birds that some of the Canadian members here have.

They are georgeous birds JohnBoy, you did really good.

There was a bird show here in my area and a vendor had a huge selection of finches. Everything was set up very nicely and he had so many birds and so many good deals. I wanted to take about three pairs from him that day but I ended up walking away with a pair of BCCB's. I feel dumb for doing that now, as BCCB's are pretty common compared to Combassous and Black Faced fires, both of which he had there. He had about 8 black face fires in a cage, all extremely beautiful. They looked a bit tired though. He was asking $150 for a pair. THAT'S CHEAP. He wanted $80 for a pair of combassous. and he had about 4 pairs, and I would have taken them out of there in a heart beat had I known more about them. Same goes for the black face fires. I knew nothing about them when I discovered them at the mart. The next mart he will be in is Everybody's Bird Mart in Pomona, CA on November 28. I am trying to find a way to go but it will probably cost me more in gas than in the birds themselves.

Your fires are gorgeous though Johnny. That's exactly what they looked like at the fair and that's exactly why I fell in love with them.

OOps I should have said there are no breeders in Western Canada. There are fantastic breeders in Eastern Canada. I am a very long ways from them and I do not want a shipped bird as I can not afford those costs.

Janine - I guess you and I can smooth our feathers down now, hmmm? I know you have beautiful birds and I'm pretty sure I have some too! [-o< =D>

JohnBoy sure has a beautiful pair in those Black-faced Firetails! Hope they breed well for you, John :!: [-o<

Kinnika - If you don't want a shipped bird - then you'll just have to come east for a birding vacation (aka ROAD TRIP)!! =D>

We received a light dusting of snow here last night Candace, it is so beautiful. Next time I will take a pic and post it. It does get a little redundant though around the month of February....by then I have had way more than enough and just want to see my tulips start to grow. :D

The YB waxbills are doing great! The males have a very loud call. They are always chirping. They enjoy staying high up so they are hard for me to observe because the top of the cage has a 2" lip and the birds are always up in that lip area in the greenery. Can n't wait to get them in the aviary. Winter has not even started and I am ready for Spring.

I agree, Candace. I'm originally from PA. I have shoveled enough snow to last me 2 lifetimes  I enjoy my snow through pictures, so please, Janine, pictures! :)

Oh please do not take offense I forgot to separate East from Western Canada. In my part of the world Gouldians are hardly known about. Eastern Canada has an abundance of beautiful birds that we have never seen. I do APOLOGIZE if I hurt anyones feelings.

I hear you John, I like cool comfortable weather but when it gets down right chilly I am just not used to it.

It sounds as if your YBs are acting being very elusive.
