Re: Mixing Birds ....
Bourkes are very peaceful birds and come in many mutations. I raised the Rosey Bourkes years ago, very sweet gentle birds that mix in an aviary nicely. They need room width wise to fly atleast 6 ft is good. They will breed nicely for you in a keet box. I knew many breeders that kept them in an aviary with their finches and canaries.

Re: Mixing Birds ....
It all depends on the space you have. In a cage I wouldn't mix anything with finches!!!
I have an aviary, 11 by 11 feet with budgies and finches successfully and peacefully living and breeding next to each other for 2 years.
Again: enough space is needed!!!

Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Re: Mixing Birds ....
I think what you can mix depends on size of enclosure as Usula mentioned. Some of the species you can mix require bigger housing for flying or territory (like canaries)
Other than hook bills, you can keep canary types (singers), doves (lots to choose from big and small), Quail and some sparrow species. If you have enough room though not to cause friction for territory.
I currently keep all of the above in an outdoor aviary.
