Re: What the hey? Hybrid
So you guys think it is a pure strain of nun? Should I buy it? It was only 20.00...
I've never seen anything like it... Would a juvie really have brown and black on it's belly as well?

Meagan, At the last bird fair a dealer had one adult for $20.00. I did not buy it cause I was afraid I would not be able to find it a mate. They are not that common in captivity any more, in the USA anyway. If you don't mind having just one, I'd say yes buy it. I think $20 is a extremely good price. I now wish I had bought the one I'd seen.Meagan83 wrote:So you guys think it is a pure strain of nun? Should I buy it? It was only 20.00...

Well, they had a similar one a few months back, but it only had two black spots. I think they come from the same breeder and they ship them. I'd be wary though I suppose since I could not be sure that they would not be related.

Yes I think it's tri colour munia.
and Franny, here's photo I took from the book "Birds of Vietnam", there's drawing of juvenile black headed and white headed munia. Hope you like it! and sorry for the flash light, it's night here in Vietnam

Aha! Yes, yes yes, I can see the resemblance to the adult and juvenile bird now! So it is simply molting out of it's juvie plumage. I would never have guessed. I suppose I am not as educated as I thought.
Thanks for helping me identify it!

Re: What the hey? Hybrid
tri colour nun, juvenile.
bengalese/society hybrids tend to end up looking like the benalese parent. i bred 3 white headed nun X bengalese hybrids a number of years ago and they ended up looking like very dark bengalese with paleish beaks

I saw that the tri colored nun is listed as passive, but there is no further info. Can anyone show me where I could find more info on them, or perhaps give me their opinions if they have kept these?

Re: What the hey? Hybrid
Sorry, when I kept them it was only the pair, no other birds. They were calm birds, much like the societies. A really quirky "song" from the male. High pitched whine like a flash warming up.
Beautiful birds. The nail trimming was a chore. They got used to it though.
