Re: Illusive Firefinch
Sorry this didn't work out the first time. Could of been other birds in the aviary
Could the parents have possibly built a new nest over top the eggs?

Re: Illusive Firefinch
Oh, that is really too bad. I lost my first clutch also. There were only 2, but I checked the nest. I think they were only a few days old and then the parents abandonded them. I put them in with my Cordons.. who had no fertile eggs and wanting chicks so badly(too old, I think) and the chicks died the next morning. This is the pair of Cordons that fostered my Society chicks
I kept my distance from the Fires with their second clutch and they raised and fledged another two chicks.. almost weaned now. I saw the parents mating again yesterday
They are now breeding faster than I can keep up with them. I can't seem to find a window in the nesting/breeding to separate them. I am sure yours will have another nest/clutch soon. Seems the first is the hardest. Keep us posted. Good luck, Monotwine!

Aye it happens. Like we all are aware it comes with the territory of bird keeping.
No buried little ones in the nest. I pulled the nest to empty it. (my birds never seem to reuse a used nest!)
They will breed again I am sure.

So sorry to hear this, but since they hatched out one clutch, they'll probably try again. It is the only down side I can see to a mixed aviary--the possibility of interference from other birds.

I agree - the mixed aviary can be very upsetting and rewarding but mostly upsetting because of there interference from other birds even from the same species in a mixed aviary.Sally wrote:So sorry to hear this, but since they hatched out one clutch, they'll probably try again. I'm sorry you lost them - they will try again. Perhaps this time they will nest in a more secluded spot then before.
