New gouldians time to moult?

Post by finchbob » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:01 pm

How many weeks/months does it take for a gouldian to complete its moult andcolour up from the moment it hatches?

I beleive it all depends on each individual bird. I have 2 that are almost all coloured up, they wil be 4 months old next week. The last one is only just starting now.

Somewhere between 3 to 12 months. It depends on the individual bird, genetics, time of year, and just how anxious you are for them to color up. :D My orange head white breast yellow gould took a full year, just to annoy me. His siblings from the same clutch were done in probably 4-5 months.

Most of mine color up 4 to 6 months... though I do have 1 that is almost 2 years old and he still doesn't have his full adult plumage.

I agree with the others of between 4 - 6 months on average. Some jvueniles get 'stuck in moult' which simply means they are partially moulted and will finish the next time round (between 1 and 2 years of age).

Mine are 4 months old and only have a few head feathers. They are housed outdoors so I think it will take them long since it is colder. I look everyday in hopes of seeing some new adult feathers. I can feel your pain...It seems like it takes forever.
