Cordon Bleus

Someone told me that Blue Breasted or Blue Front Cordon Bleus were easier to breed then the Blue Capped. Does anybody have the Blue Breasted, and is this so. I have two unrelated pairs coming soon and I cannot wait to see if they will be a challenge

Mmm if your blue breasted/fronted CB's are the same as what we here call blue CB's then yes I also heard they are easier to breed.
I visited a breeder that does just this. He has less issues breeding them than other CB's. However here you need permitting for them as they are indigenous and permits to sell and transport young etc etc etc so they are not popular.

Well I got my Blue Fronted/Breatsed Cordons, and they are a lot harder to tell apart from the other two breeds.

Congrats, and please post photos/keep us updated on how they are doing, what they are like, etc. Blue breasted Cordons are what I have been considering for my next pair...... Where did you get yours?

Yes they are rarer to find. Probably because the males are less colorful than the other subspecies. But congrats, I think they are very beautiful birds!

I'm actually having a hard time telling them apart. From what i read the males Might be darker but I cannot see any difference. I have them set up and they are both doing a happy dance and building a nest so I guess I have a pair in there

Actually, Domenic, the pair that I saw were MORE colorful (as in brighter, deeper blue) than the other Cordons. The breeder that had them told me that the Blue Breasted Cordons are not as pale blue as the other types of Cordons ???????

They are definitely brighter than the female Blue Capps but the blue does not go over the whole head like the male Blue Capps

I had a pair that I sold last year. Yes, they are much more colourful than the other two species. The females look the same pretty much, just a little bluer, but the males have more blue and the blue is much more vibrant.

I've read they are easier to breed and were much more common years back.
