First OH LB Gouldian

Post by CandoAviary » Wed Apr 21, 2010 12:00 am

Isn't he going to be so handsome once he gets those feathers moulted? With his sister.

Here are 2 more of his sisters...one Lilac breast and one purple

These Lilac breasted SF are from the same parents...previous clutch. The first clutches got more yellow color, the later were all green back. All lovely though :D

Misty...you are at the top of the list :D
I have 3 generations now...... my original that I bought from Rhonda.
The first year I had 2 LB males, one is with female actively breeding, the other(Levi) with his PB brother in the picture with the yellow bands. They were 2008 chicks.
Image
Another brother of theirs PB/LB was paired with an OH PB/WB GB hen and they had the LB and WB single factor with the orange bands on in the same picture. 2009 chicks. One male has dirty white breast, they also produced nice OH PB hens. Have set them up to breed, will see if they are split for LB or WB......
The 2008 OH LB sf male not pictured (Legacy) has produced these in this picture...
Image
some late 2009 and some early 2010....so I am getting a few different lines of these lilacs going. I was waiting for them to finish moulting and I was going to contact you to see if you were still interested. I will be in Tallahassee on May 15th-16th fair. I could bring them and meet you there? How far of a drive is that?
I plan on keeping the one with the orange band that is singing in the first picture...he was actually a tossed that was handfed....then given to the societies.....he has a very strange song but is very pleasing to me :D Let me know what you think...I am not planning on selling any at this time as they are all moulting but by mid May should be no problem...also to an experienced keeper such as yourself...no problem.

Tiffany,
I know you will be in Florida a few times...Jacksonville and Orlando isn't it? Maybe we could meet up or when they have finished the molt I could ship to you. Or even get with Misty and maybe combine the shipping?? I'm flexible and would love to see them in such wonderful homes :D Let me know what you may be interested in so I will not take them to sell at the fair. I will post some updated pictures soon of what is for sale on my website....I have just been waiting for them to finish with all these pin feathers

Well I wouldn't be heading to FL until the end of the year, so shipping when they are done molting might be better to satisfy my "gotta have em" urge LOL.
I think Misty might also be coming up to this area at some point too, so we have options in terms of getting birds up to me.

I would imagine Lainey would likely be interested in RH or OH hens you might have that will be normals (if you have any), too :)

Well then I will ship. I have never done it so I will be a nervous mother hen myself. Give me some pointers and what you think the best shipping crate is.
I had some come from Virginia in a box with exsposed staples in the inside  :( I had some come in a chicken cardboard shipper :? I had keets come in a modified small dog kennel....
What do you recommend? I will try and get pictures posted on my site soon of what I have for sale. I will email you of the update.

I followed Misty's advice/lead when I shipped her Rooster and a Society hen last year (for moral support to Rooster lol) and had Eric construct a shipping box based on a photo she sent me.

I've had them shipped in a modified cat carrier by Winnie but the Airport almost didn't accept that - and the way the top opened, it made it unsettling trying to get the birds out (in the middle of an airport parking lot, no less, even being IN a car) because of how easily they could escape.

The first shipment I got came in a solid cardboard box but they do not allow those anymore to my knowledge (almost like a horizon box but not).

I can send you pictures when I get home of the box Eric built.. it was cheap doing it this way, too.. and obviously I would pay you for the cost of the box.. or I could also send you down the box I have that Tony shipped my birds in last year, too, because I still have it :)
