Cindy, they have had about 4 clutches now, and have never raised them beyond 2 weeks old. I just found a dead chick on the aviary floor last week. Stuck my finger in the nest and there were no others.

Sounds like they are lovin' the aviary! I lost my female RHF suddenly, she passed in her sleep in her roosting spot...there is a show in 2 weeks, hoping to get another female or him.

The Whydah is just georgous!!!
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

And WOW the Paradise whydah is beautiful!!
Can you breed those birds in captivity?

Can you breed those birds in captivity?
Yes but you need a pair of Melba finches in the aviary with them. They are parasitic and lay their eggs in the Melba's nest.
