Do please remember, though, that a bird that may not bite a person may very well nip at a small cagemate. A nip from one of those beaks can easily take a slender little foot off, and it can happen on the first nip. I don't want to chance it, so my two budgies have their own cage where they can play with each other rather than with the finches.

Rue,
they are in a huge cage. I could fit in it.
Yes, yes, I know that the perch they were sitting on is too small.
When I took that pic, we were in the process of organizing their new cage and the bigger perch was still wet since I cleaned all the cage accessories.
I quarantine the birds for a few days only. Never had problems with any.

I was wondering about shorter Q times too. I've never heard of anyone having problems with or without long Q times, especially since most of us seem to be careful about where we buy and the condition of the individuals we choose. No one has answered negatively about problems in my recent request thread (Your opinion wanted).

I'll be watching with interest to see how they all get along down the road...
...we let our budgies and finches out together for free flight about 1X a week...but that's in a 10X12' room...and they're so busy checking everything out they're not into fighting or establishing territories...

A bird in the hand...requires some serious washing up...

Some will tell you that you are crazy, not a responsible bird keeper if you do not do the quarantine.
I buy my birds from only one petstore which gets their birds from only one bird breeder. They are all in excellent condition.

...having them bathe together must be awfully cute!
That's why I always encourage owners of one bird to get another...even if it's in a totally different group because birds flock...and will eat at the same time, bathe at the same time...nap at the same time...it's good for their sense of security and well-being...
