cindy wrote:Deborah that is a very nice pair of Bourkes, it is hard to tame down an older adult bourke if it was never handled or handfed. If they are over a yr and you plan to breed them, pull the chicks and feed out when they are two weeks old, I spoon feed opposed to syrine. if you handle the babies alot you will get tame bourkes that aren't flighty.
Thanks for the advice Cindy. I probably won't try to breed them since I don't know how old they are. But I do want to try to tame them if possible. I have read older ones can be tamed but we will see about that. I will let you know how it goes.

My three young 'uns are about ready to leave the nest...noisy little devils when begging.Shame all five didn't make it...that would have made a picture.I'll post pics when they are on the perch.
Hope you get as much pleasure from yours Cindy.

John, I almost got two lineolated parakeets...my friend breeds them as well. He has some beautiful mutations and has won best in show for some. I resisted....next time :D

The bourkes are so cute, if you walk by their cage they stick their wings up in the air and run to you chirping...so cute, they are settling in nicely.

The bourkes are settling in nicely, coming to the door of the cage and eating right out of my hand. They greet you with little soft chirps as you enter the room.

The pictures show a little patch of feathers missing from each of their chests, this is from the feathers that were needed for sexing.

Candace it seems the grassparakeets are gaining in popularity again...we may need to start a forum for them!!! My friend is adding a few more pairs to his collection
