It is so funny how something "commonplace" in one country are exotic in another. I had a friend visit from Australia and he thought that squirrels were just the most fascinating and fabulous creatures, where as many here think on them as nuisances! We sat and watched them for hours in a park when I wanted to show him all the sights! :D
That is SO true!

It is true, "It is so funny how something "commonplace" in one country are exotic in another". The same thing I feel, when I look for birds that are quite rare in Indonesia, they seem to disappear and are rarely encountered.
Become a matter of contradictory and alarming enough when the stock birds are plentiful, they are sometimes not so considered. Is waiting for them to go extinct, then there is attention to them?

Here is one more type of seed-eating birds are mostly found in Indonesia. we call it "Manyar bird."
Image
There are several types known in Indonesia, among others:
Tempua (Ploceus philippinus), Manyar crested (Ploceus Manyar)
and Manyar gold (Ploceus hypoxanthus)

Nest Manyar very unique shape, is one of the most complicated; in english "weaver bird" means a weaver bird. some kind of nest even equipped with a "door trick" to fool predators. The door is clearly open, while the door is actually hidden. predator who tried to enter the door trick will meet a dead end, not connected to the cavity where the eggs or young birds are located.

Thank you Janine & Liz ...
in fact they have started is hard to find in some trees that usually place their nest. so much development that destroys their habitat. particular type of "Manyar Gold" which began to disappear, kicaunya have not heard from again. A beautiful sight, seeing them hanging exotic nests in nearly all the tree tops.

There is one thing that was quite interesting from them, where male success in marrying a female is very dependent on the "perfection" which he built a nest. the females who are interested in a particular male will investigate carefully the male's nest, and when the female is pleased, then the marriage can take place.

This is a bit off-subject, but why don't/can't they trap Adavant finches in Hawaii. I saw a few of them on my way up to Hana in Maui.

Splendid pictures and the Manyars are just wonderful architects! Just look at that porch with a perch even. Thank you for sharing.

Pity about the wild ones being caught for sales. I suppose at the end of the day the responsibilities lies with us bird keepers and aviculturists to curb the demand by breeding captive birds instead on relying on wild stocks.
Its a matter of organising it nationally. I think Aust. has it on the go where they monitor their aviculturist stocks as they cannot import.
