Great pictures! Your YF male and Isabel hen look just like the pair I used to have--I miss them! Stars are one of my favorites, I just don't have room for them right now.

The breeding cage size that is working for my Stars is 27 1/2 X 11 X 15 high....They gave me 5 and now I am waiting for them to settle in for their next successful clutch

Re: First Star Finches
I have two pairs of stars and one pair lays eggs and hatches the eggs but don't follow through after that. I tried giving the eggs to societies but they also don't follow through. The other pair has not bred at all. I always found stars difficult to breed.dfcauley wrote:That is so wonderful!! Those babies are adorable. I have a pair of stars, but they have never bred for me. They are very bonded and always "kissing" (that is what it looks like they are doing). They are such sweet little birds.![]()

Re: First Star Finches
Thank you, everybody.
These guys bred relatively easily for me so I think much must depend on the birds themselves... maybe you folks who've tried them and want to try again should get some new stock and give it a go -- we need more Stars in this world!
Debbie I will try cage breeding with them -- I've got one about that size...!

Do you have a pic of your cage? Do you put a lot of greenery in for privacy? Hide their nest? What kind of nest? Box? Open canary?G8love4finches wrote:The breeding cage size that is working for my Stars is 27 1/2 X 11 X 15 high....They gave me 5 and now I am waiting for them to settle in for their next successful clutch

Sounds beautiful!! Pics for sure, when you can.annague wrote:I can hardly back up in the space that I have to get enough of a picture to see the whole aviary...I'll see what I can do. To me, it's not the aviary I particularly like-- it's the way it's 'furnished' for its inhabitants... BIG twisty limbs of trees that transect the entire length. Long vines hanging down everywhere...
It's a jungle!!
