Good luck Jerry! They are a beautiful bright pair! I love the yellows! I have a question... why do they call the hen a yellow head when her head is orange? It's probably a dumb question but I had to ask. I have a lot to learn before I even think about getting a pair of my own!
Candace~ What wonderful information!!

That's so awesome to do this research and try to find an answer to the frustrating question "why do they toss and they don't ?"

Candace,
Here's an interesting article you might enjoy reading

If you're a female and you're with an incompatible mate, beware: The stress could drive you to take drastic action.
She may reduce the size and number of eggs and provide less care for the chicks, in the hope she'll get a better partner the following year.

The terms yellow head and orange head are interchangeable. I think in Australia (and possibly the UK) they always call visually orange heads yellow. I'm not sure why they don't call them orange heads. I call an orange head ...orange! Just calling them as I see them.

Best wishes with your new pair.
Candace. Some very interesting and actually I think logical observations.

Trying somethings differantly this time.
a) a bigger cage
b) wait longer for them to bond
c) more than one nest box
d) more cover on the cage

Thanks Debbie, I read all of Dr. Sarah Pryke & Dr. Griffiths research papers on the studies they conduct. Figuring out what makes birds tic is what fascinates me so about birdkeeping...any species

I guess I should of stated that I paired same head colored birds. Most were red headed and 3 pairs are black headed. Also all were normal greenbacks.
With my experiments so far I have only worked with the normal mutations. The other mutations would add too many varibles for me to keep up with and since the yellow head form is not very prominent in the natural world of gouldians I stick with mostly red heads and a few black heads..... Still trying to figure out why one red head pair tossed and the 2 pair of red heads on either side did not. Obviously it's something I'm not seeing.
