yes the door sure keeps the cold out,the postman came at 11-30 today and i had to sign for a letter,he let the door blow back and it hit the bush like it always does when he comes,he said where is that cheeping coming from and i pointed to the hedge which runs down the left hand side of our house....i didnt want him to know because everyone wants to have a look i havent even told my grandaughter because i know she would be poking about in there i have only looked once to take the pics,as long as they are making a noise i will not look again

hi everyone
well thats the end of the blackbird chicks we were all woken up by an awful racket and our bedroom window is directly above the bush,crows managed to get at the nest and took all 4 the parents did thier best to protect them and my wife shot downstairs in her dressing gown and tried to shoo them off but they where determined to take them.....they did drop one outside the front door but it was dead when we went to pick it up.....i absolutlely hate crows they had been making a racket the night before so they had probably been raiding all the nests in the large hedge at the bottom of our back garden i am really annoyed and spent most of today spraying them with the pressure hose to keep them away from the hedge...they perch on the tv aerial and make that almost mocking sound

So sorry Kenny Poor little chicks! Hopefully they will have enough time to raise another clutch .I too despise the crows. Nothing will nest in the yard if the crows are around. The saddest thing I ever saw was the sweet Blue Jay mom and dad that were nesting across the back of our property, one day started screaming and we realized the crows had carried away all of their babies. Like you said, the parents fought valiantly to no avail. What really got to me was they called to the babies for days. I'd go out to work in the garden and there the Blue Jays would be calling and calling. Ugh, heartbreaking. Our neighbors feed the crows bread so they're always around now Sorry, I'm rambling, the neighbors and feeding the crows is one of my sore spots....

well i still cant believe it,my wife was out in the garden this morning watering the fruit trees we have in tubs in the back garden ,everytime a crow landed she sprayed them with the water hose...it has upset her more than i thought it would

That is so upsetting - nature can be as cruel as it can be wonderful
I had a blue jay trying its very best to kill a full grown sparrow in my yard the other day. The poor little thing was screaming for all it was worth. It worked too - it got my attention and I opened my door and the bluejay dropped it. They both flew away, so it was OK...

It is amazing where birds will nest though. My mother has a pair of robins that nest on the outside light right beside her front door. Very messy, and the bird is terribly upset every time anyone goes in and out, but it doesn't stop them from raising chicks and coming back year after year. Once they get used to you, you can even sit outside and have your coffee (a little ways down of course - robins are so messy!)

well i am still fortunate,that the families of starlings and house sparrows still use our eaves as nesting places and i know the crows cant get to them because there is nothing to cling on to!but i am constantly worried now about the ones on the large hedge we have in the back and the small one in the front,i know there are nests in there for sure,i have boxes all over for them to make a house in but they prefer the natural branches..if they used the boxes then the crows couldnt get at them
