Totally adorable family! Mr. Grumpy is so cute! Just makes you want to pick him up and tickle his chin :D ! I'm so happy for you! I will keep the probiotics info in the back of my mind in case I'm lucky enough to get a pair of my own. I have to think that if the parents are feeling good they'll take good care of their chicks. And 2 more under the Zebbies! Wow, owls are everywhere at your house! Woopie! =D>

Thank you Trish...I treated for 7 days with Ronivet S for all owls then Probiotics. The parents of the 4 have gotten Ronivet and Probiotics during the time they fed out. Some of the young are eating on their own and I will dicontinue the probiotics soon. I can't be for certain that this helped or the parents gained further experience or maybe both!

Cindy- There is so much for me to learn! Ugh. protozoa, canker, breeding, illness. When I purchased my Society finches (and Zebras given to me) I told my husband "they'll be so much easier to raise than the parrots since they don't have to be taken out and handled to keep them tame". Ha ha, jokes on me! We've built flight cages and I cook more for the little finches than I do for the parrots! I have to laugh. I love the little boogers and at my age I'm loving learning something new. I can not imagine how anyone can take good care of the little ones and have a job too  I'm glad I'm retired!! I really love your Owls. What special little darlings =D>

Thank you again Trish...I have done both hookbills and finches...hookbills are in my opinion easier to care for, a little cleaner. Finches are a bit messy and so delicate (certain species) and require a different type of care...each has it's pro's and cons. My husband thought the noise of finches was not as bad an a parrot but might rethink it when standing in a room of zebras all talking to each other!!!

The kids like to hang out in the tube nest during the day but sleep in the nestbox with mom and dad at night!

I just returned from a trip to southern Florida...hubby took care of the dogs and birds for me for 4 days. He was so ggod about grating eggfood for them, he said the young were right down in the dish before he could get his hand out of the cage. The all look really great. The other pair are on eggs as are the parents...even my older female is in the nest alot.

The zebras with the fertile owl eggs may quiet possibly hatched the eggs and are raising a or both owl chicks...it is hard to see in their little nest but I am certain I saw dark browm feathers...so I may have to see what pops out of the nest in a couple of weeks!!! Maybe unrelated owl chicks to go with the other babies from the busy pair!!!
