If he has been in captivity now for 5 years, I would really wonder if he would be able to fend for himself in the wild. I personally don`t think that after 5 years letting him free is even an option

I did not see that the bird was in captivity for 5 years. In that case I would be hesitant to free the bird but I still think the bird should have been set free 5 years ago after it was raised to health, especially since the bird is a rarer color form.
