Re: black cheeks
Cindy: Both pictures you posted are: LightBack females.cindy wrote:This is picture I found on the internet..it claims it is a fawn split female but I see a hint of a breast bar there!
The first one is LB split BC.
And the second is LB BC.
The first one is MY hen, Nyx

Where did you find the photo where it was claimed that she was a Fawn?
One time I thought she was a fawn but then I found out she was LB.
Long time ago when I was still learning

I found pictures of BC's here
And the last photo is of Fawn BC female.
The differents between fawns and LB are:
Lightback females have: littlebit darker lightgrey wings and lightgrey chest and White undertail coverts.
And the tail bars are black.(dark grey)
Fawns have: littlebit darker lightbrown wings, lightbrown chest and buff colored undertail coverts.
And the tail bars are dark brown.
And Ameza is right, Sometimes the BC splits and full BC females have
smudges on their chest or even in the flank area.

Re: black cheeks
Thanks for the input everybody....looks like I'll have to pass on these. I'm looking for Black Cheeks ,but New England has a poor supply of bird varieties.
Maybe I should look to the South

Re: black cheeks
Cindy,
Does Gina have zebras? I though I recalled some diaglogue with her about them a while ago. She's in the east coast too. She may know if someone nearby has any BC's. I think.

Re: black cheeks
I am not sure. I may consider shipping eggs in the future. do like an egg swap (I sent domenic eggs from FL to Nevada) so I can get new bloodlines and mutation options. By next go around for my BC and BC CCFW and CCFW/BC, penguins, fawns, FF and FS it would be fun to send out new bloodlines to other forum members...we can even do this with owls and shaft tails.

I agree! It gives a gentler, more feminine look to the BC, but maintains a very striking look!cindy wrote:Thank you....the things we learn here!!! The fawn softens the look, very pretty!

Flygirl...I don't know how close you are to Paterson, NJ but try calling this place and see if they have or know anyone that has BC. I know a few people in NJ that love this store. O their site they claim to have finches.

Re: black cheeks
When I got my BCs last month, I hadn't even considered the possibility that I might find anything other than normals and I had never actually seen a fawn zebra in person. I was delighted that she had a selection of healthy looking LBs and fawns. I fell in love with the fawn/BC combo right away!cindy wrote:Nelissa, I love fawn mutations!

Re: black cheeks
I actually had a fawn BC in a carry cage at the show...the beak was still black and I was unsure it was stong enough to make the long trip home...I decided to have the breeder return her to the cage before I paid...now ask me if I regret doing so!!!!

How do eggs ship? I would think they would get broken or cold or something. If it is possible, what a great way to get new bloodlines!

This is the adventures of my eggs to Domenic....
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... hilit=coco
I would be using different packaging but it is fine as long as the egg is not sitting in the heat or cold of a mailbox. you actually have 7 days from the time the first egg is laid to take two or three eggs and over night or two day ship them by mail.
