Re: Pearl-head Amadines
so sorry
I'm hoping they'll do better next time around. maybe they got spooked... time will tell. They are adorable birds. Love the black tipped wings and black tail. Once again, I've never seen any like those. I sure hope for success next clutch!

Re: Pearl-head Amadines
Found the female dead this morning. She was fine with no sign of illness. There were 5 infertile eggs in the nest. I will not buy these again. This is around the 5th pair I have tried in the past 3 years and the female always dies after laying eggs. The males usually last a few months after and mysteriously die.
I also lost my female Saffron last week.
I've decided to stop buying and wasting good money on exotics. I will only keep Goulds. Zebras, Societies, Javas, Spice, Goldbreast,Shaftails, and I love my Magpie mannikins. These birds all are hardy and breed well with no problems.
Adios all others.

Re: Pearl-head Amadines
That's utterly depressing. I'm sooo sorry for your loss. They are such beautiful birds -- I wonder what is causing them to drop like flies? Do you know how old your birds are? And was the female eating the calcium you were providing? That is just the most bizarre thing ever....the fact that they are healthy one day, and fall over the next. I know the feeling of finding a dead bird -- makes my stomach sick just thinking about it. You are a wonderful owner and you should have peace knowing that you did all that you could.

God is my redeemer and it is through Him I have found eternal happiness. I am grateful, I am blessed, and I am truly loved. I wish all this and more for all members of our finch forum family. May you all be blessed and highly favored.

John, I am so sorry. I know how upsetting this must be for you. I love the harder birds, the delicate ones do concern me also.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of the hen. I wonder what happened, if she was over taxed by the previous eggs and then these? What a shame. I know you are feeling gun shy about anymore, but it is people like you, who care what happens, that can make a difference in breeding the more delicate and sensitive species. Hang in there.

I'm so sorry John! I know how awful it is to get your hopes up and then -bang-
I know it doesn't make you feel any better but your love of birds makes a difference. The rest of your flock needs you too. I hope you're feeling better. Nature isn't always kind.
