saulosirds Are you a member of the Official National Finch & Softbill Society facebook page? That would be a good place to ask if others are working with this species. I wish I had extra space and money, can't believe Lauren got 24 of them!!

Sally
I joined as of yesterday, just haven't had my request approved yet.
I would have bought more but the price was fairly steep. Of course, I then found another seller selling them for less then half per bird then what I paid. Kinda hard to stomach that much of a mark up after I realized what I could have paid for them!

saulosirds Oh, no, that is always disgusting! Lauren got hers from the Finch Farm, don't know if that is the same place for you. They are fascinating birds. Lauren is also a member here, her forum name is Sunbay.

Mine are very vocal and have built a nest on the ground. The male has a very interesting mating dance, very different to my other waxbills.
Male is very protective around the entrance to the nest and chases everything away, otherwise very peaceful birds

Terorris
Welcome!
Can you tell us a bit about your birds, set up. who they are housed with, where your birds came from, ETC?
Glad they seem to be doing well for you.
My pair are in an 8'x6' flight with black caps, rccb pair, Peter's Twinspot pair, and a pair of Yellow billed Shaftails.
They also built a big nest in a clump of timothy hay but not sure if they are just using as a roosting nest or eventually plan to lay eggs in it.
Good luck with yours and keep us updated on how they are doing.

Re: African Quailfinch
Hi Rob
Many thanks for the welcome.
Due to limited space, its an outdoor aviary 1 m (w) x 8 m (l) x 2 m (h), in an L shape. Half is under roof.
I have indigenous grass growing and its in here that they have built their nest. They are quite territorial around the nest. The male sits on a log and sings his heart out.
I have red billed fire finches, orange breasted waxbills, swee waxbills, black cheek waxbills and quail finches. Small aviary so few birds...
I'm from Cape Town.
