Well three eggs total and no sitting for two days, I transferred the eggs to the societies nest to see if they will sit on them. They have sat for all of today. At least I'll be able to see (with anyluck) if they were fertile and therefore a male and female pair. Silly little buggers... never sat on the eggs. Is that a normal Owl thing to do?

I think it is if this is their first try. I took my owls three times before they got it right. But.... I am not sure I would have transferred them so fast. There may have been more eggs to come and they don't sit until all eggs are laid.

it proablly was too soon, but it just seemed way too soon for them to be settled enough to sit. I had them for less than 2 weeks and they are in a big flight with 6 other birds. (no need for quaranitine they were from the same place).

oh well they will lay again someday. I wasn't really expecting it so soon.

Quite a few times I have bought birds and had them sitting in a few weeks. And successfully raised chicks, they quite often turned out to be my best breeders.

the eggs were not fertile, but next time I will just let them be. I think I might have caught the male singing the other night. I might have been mistaken.... it was pretty quiet.

I am laughing at them. They are in a large flight with a pair of societies while I get my breeding cages built. I notice another egg in their nest three days ago, but none since. I don't mind. I am not really ready for them to breed as I want to move them to a new cage in a few days. Anyways on to the laughing part. I thought societies to be nest stealers but tonight I noticed my two sweet owls have stolen my societies nest. Quite funny really as the societies are quite unsure of what to make of them in their nest.

I really love my birds, they are so entertaining.

LOL last night they all stuffed themselves into one nest. It was so cute. I tried to get a picture but it didn't work. I hope they can't cross breed, that would be bad.

It's hard to get a picture in the cage without them all flying out of the nest, but everynight, all four get in the nest to snuggle. 2 owls and 2 societies. Oh god I hope they can't crossbreed.

The Finch Information Center is an excellent resource for crossbreeding info. According to their species info on Owls, they can crossbreed with Societies, as well as many other species. Since you have two pairs, maybe they will stay with their own mates?

the owls have their own cage now. I think they are very happy. They have been in there for less than a week (Wednesday morning) and they have started a new clutch. See if they are fertile this time.
