Some interesting points about inbred birds versus colour per se, and I agree with your notions on sturdiness, heat, etc.

So did you breed known DF males to SF females? What were their clutch sizes?

Yes I have bred DF to yellow females. I have not seen any difference in clutch size between these and my green backed birds. In fact the largest clutch (8 fledged) I have ever had was a DF blue X yellow split to blue.
