I have 6 pairs of GB and I gave up on trying to band the young. This year I will place different pairs into different aviaries..or flight cages so that I can pair up unrelated pairs. This winter I put them in a cage bank cage that if you pull out the partitions it makes a 6 foot long flight. Everytime I would go into the bird building 1 to 3 would be free flying. I was so stumped at to how they were gettin out. The flight is fully enclose on th back and side. the wire is 3/8 inch. I figured maybe they were squeezing out where I pulled the partions out, even though it was 1/2 ".... I took tie wraps and pulled them up tight. I also set food and water out on top...juust in case I continued to have escapees... then at least they would have refreshments. No more did escape.
In the outdoors I have 1/2 inch hardware wire attached to the inside of a 2x4 frame and on the outside I have screen attached to protect against mosquitos. There is a gap between the wire and screen of 3.5 inches. Last year I had a new fledgling squeze through the wire but the screen protected him from the out of doors. The parents continued to feed him through the wire until I could assist in freeing him. They are tiny but some of my favorites !!!! I drove pine stakes in the ground...(away from any structures) and grew termites. I would take the termite laiden stick to the aviary and watch them have a feeding frenzy. That is their most favorite food.

That is so cute that they would feed through the wire. They must have been awesome parents.

I have a pair and I love them. They are so tiny.

They were great parents. It was the first year that I had them, I am in the process of scrubbing the branches and floor with vanodine... it is in the drying mode as i type. Lunch break then round up lots of nest and hang about...... probably will catch the GB s up first thing in the morning and release them into the flight.
Need to get some termite spikes going.........

It is an cleanser that kills viruses, fungus, and bacteria. It is effective on over 55 pathogens. It is safe for mamals, does not need to be rinsed. Can be used as a mist for the air, cages, in the water (like saniclens and it does contain iodine!) can be used on wounds and will treat foot fungus in a foot bath, just in case anybody has this problem.
I use to use it at the boarding kennels... kills bordetella (kennel cough)
It is non corosive unlike bleach.. It is used at most every bird show, dog show, rabbit show... you will see the handlers spraying the display tables with it. Awesome stuff...... plus with my contact dermititis I can use it without any outbreak.... Great stuff check out www.vanodine.com

It is a great product. I order mine from Bunnyrabbit.com , they have a good price and usually have it stock. It goes a long way because of the dilution rate. Hope you get some... it is a great addition to the bird room.
