JohnBoy,
Thanks for another picture.
I am sure what you have is a hen. Many hens will show this vivid yellow belly color if bred for. Many people think mine are males but they sure do lay some nice fertile eggs  The purple breast of the hen is always lighter than the purple breast of the cock. Lilac breast on a cock bird looks very much like a light purple breasted hen...easy for people to get them confused. Below is a pair of mine .... notice the hen has as rich of a yellow belly as the male. Her purple breast is almost the same color as His lilac breast. But the mask will always give it away. The female will never be as full in size or as rich in color as the males.
Though your hen may be a Lilac breast instead of a purple breast. It is really hard to capture the true clolr of the purples or else my monitor has a hard time reading that color. In your first picture it looks very purple, in the second it looks rosier.
Hope this helps you. :D

This picture shows a yellow head, PURPLE breast Yellow Back Male..you can see how dark the purple is though this is an exceptionally dark breast.

Brain picking...just wondering! :)
Yes Cindy,
Gouldians can be easily sexed by color differences. Mask size, Tail wires, and of course song.
Many can be sexed in the nest as some mutations ar sexed linked. So as soon as you know you have a dilute...then it's a male. And there are others that this applies to...still learning here.

I know the basics that you speak about but are there good sites on line to reference, anyone have a particular one that you like to use?

Thanks Candace, I also feel its a female. And thanks to everyone else for giving it a shot. I guess time will tell.
The birds tail feathers do not have the tail wires. Does that matter with this mutation as far as sexing goes?

I have found the tail wires to be the least accurate. I have had some females with really long tailwires...And some males that aren't too impressive. But usually the males will have the longer. Of course they moult these feathers also so depending on their stage of developement could be at different lengthss or none existant until they grow in.
Are you planning on setting her up with one of you new orange headed chicks? That would be a really nice pairing.

John, that is sweet of you. I will in turn send you a couple of shaftails so you can have new bloodlines.

Let's not forget Lance, we need to get some Pearl societies out of him, some will go back to you of course. The eggs Ripple and Cricket are sitting on are dark and I hope they hatch soon, I have to go back and count the days (I lost track). Crossing my fingers for a chocolate female for Lance.

And then there are the Red heads! Gotta swap babies to create new pairs!

Oh and of course the RCCBs if they breed you will get some to.

John I just looked at an old post the chocolate society male and fawn female had 5 eggs as of the 5th, about 16 days from say the 3rd, so somewhere around the 19th to 21st we should have chicks over here.
