Re: I did it again!
Would they do well in a 36 high x18x18 cage. It sounds like a 30long x 18 highx 18 wide might not be enough or is it ok also?

I have drawn a blank on the forum name, but one of our members has bred them in an HQ single flight, which is 32x21x38, one pair to a cage.

For now they are in the quarantine cage, but once they have passed all the health tests, they will go into the aviary which is a tad over 4 foot long.
I do believe that once in there they will have more than enough room to stretch their wings.

Re: I did it again!
They should be happy enough in 4foot if that relates to around 4 meter. My one is happy and is in 4mx4m more or less (sharing with others).
Sorry we don't get nesting material holders here. To me it looked like the standard not-so-nice hamster wheels we get here put on backwards
Novel idea I can improvise to keep my offered nesting material clean instead of blowing away/around my aviary. Every now and then it looks like a feather pillow fight in there

Re: I did it again!
Janine,
Congratulations on your new addition.
If ever you need to swap your upcoming babies remember that I just 2 hours away or an hour if we meet in the middle. However, I should mention that my hen came from Montreal breeder and unfortunately I lost his business card and my male came from the local PetSmart.

If and when they reproduce, I will probably take you up on your offer, mine came from a breeder in Ste-Eustache, so not quite Montreal.

Re: I did it again!
I have had my 2 Green Singers for a few months now. I dont like their song. It seems more like screeching than singing. The male is always picking on the poor little female. She screeches too. They screech at each other as he chases her around. She looks down right exhausted and has feathers missing on one side of her head. They are not efectionate toward one and other. They are very picky about what they will use for nesting material--it needs to be soft like cotton balls. I dont know if I should seperate them for a while or not. I dont have another cage at the moment, so i would have to put one in with my Stars or my Javas. Not so sure that would be a good idea or not.

From what I have read up on them Leda, it sounds like yours are getting ready to mate.

Re: I did it again!
She did lay eggs--in her Abba mineral grit cup. I did everything right. Canary nest, several different kinds of nesting material, hid it up in the corner of the cage, lots of greenery around it. I would lay some nesting material in the nest and they would just pull it out. It all ended up on the floor covered in poo. So the eggs were laid without any nesting material in their grit cup.
It was fun watching him feed her all day, but she would not sit at night, so I knew I would not have fertile eggs. I left the eggs for about 2 weeks, than removed them. I had to remove all D shaped cups from their cage because she would act like she wanted to lay eggs in them. I took them off a breeding diet until I can do more research.

Re: I did it again!
i love green singer, but they are so hard to find over here now, becoming rarer all the time, and when they do crop up, they tend to be very expensive.
the back flips are, i hate to say, a sign of stress and will become a reppetative behaviour like when big cats pace the front of their enclosure at a zoo. they like to have large areas to fly as they are realy active, a long cage with a solid roof or even better a flight is better for them. sorry, dont mean to sound negative, just talking from personal experiance and i love them so!

I did it again!
I have a friend that breeds Green Singers and from what she tells me is that the female picks the male. She says to buy atleast two females with the male to get one to choose and then take the other out. Now to me, that leaves me with an extra bird at the end of all of that
Although if you want to breed more then one pair you can always wait for babies to mature for the single female?
I absolutely love the song of the male. I had one in a cage with a male Red Headed Parrot finch and they were the best of friends. I have not tried to breed him but have a female on the way.
Really, 200.00 for a pair of Stars! I just bought a pair for 100.00 but it was off a friend. I have never seen them in the Pet Smarts around here yet. Yikes! I really like them.

Re: I did it again!
It is common behavior for a cock to chase a hen. It happens with my pair of Green Singers quite often. The hen fluffs her feathers during this chase and, yes, sometimes I see flying feathers. But I don’t worry anymore, because I know my hen is the boss. If the male doesn’t do what she wants then he could be in trouble.
Janine, have you heard your male singing? If you haven’t, try to play the song
of the other Green Singer. My male always has to over-sing any completions.
