So does the white-head need to be kept in pairs at all? Or do they still need one of their own kind even tho they're not cuddlers?

Will a GB escape with 1/2" wire? Singing Wings says they use 1/2" and theirs only try to get out when they're trying to catch them.

My GBs are in galvanized wire cages that have 1/2" x 1" mesh, and I have not had any escapee problems with that mesh. The only time it was a problem was when I had removed all the waterers for the night so I could medicate the next morning, and when I went to put up the medicated tube waterers, I had 3 GBs in one cage and one in another! Finally figured out that one of the males had flown out thru the hole I have to cut for the waterers, which makes a 1" x 1" opening, and then flew in thru the opening in the other cage! My three GB babies that just fledged try their darndest to squeeze thru the mesh, but none have ever made it. I also have had GBs in the HQ double flight, and it has some serious gaps in it, yet have never had a problem with escapees.

And my Yellow-faced Star hen had a Red-faced Star mate, they raised many babies before I finally found a Yellow-faced Star male for her.
