Oh Domenic I am with you. I LOVE the solid dark black head with the blue contrast. Its so striking. I don't personally think it is top heavy at all.
I am however bias to blue birds.

Gouldians are such beautiful finches. AC12 good luck trying to choose only 6 birds!

Monique
It is less than 6, as I already have some paired up or planned to be paired up.

OH-PB-GB male with BH/YTB-PB-GB hen (currently sitting on eggs that are overdue, looking to get OH-PB-GB chicks)

RH-WB-YB male with RH-PB/WB-YB hen (the male is currently molting, my goal is RH-WB-YB chicks)

? with RH-WB-GB/BB (I am thinking of mating her with a RH-WB-GB/BB to try to get RH-WB-BB chicks)

Who knows, the BH-WB-BB may grow on me, and the other variations of blue as well :-?
But with such limited space I really need to concentrate rather than scatter in so many different directions.

Black is a "heavy" color, so it makes the bird visually look "top heavy."
You gals understand this as it is similar to putting together a blouse/skirt outfit, black blouse w white skirt..
No, you have this wrong... the lighter skirt makes the bottom look bigger. (Trust me on this one, I know... ) The dark would go on top to make the top look smaller, on the bottom, to make the bottom look smaller.

So I have to say I disagree that the black mask makes the bird top heavy. [-X

Not that Candace's birds weren't gorgeous enough :D Here is another picture of a RH WB BB  This one has the really light colored head - in person almost looks white. I prefer this color over the RH PB BB that come in all different shades of tan.

Misty
That very light head is striking.
The only color on the birds is the blue back.

Ah decisions decisions. :-?

What beautiful birds Misty and what a talented photographer you are. To me gouldians are breathtaking but you make them even more so. :D
