True... although right now he's in Illinois -- close to Chicago (so, naturally I found some birds close to Chicago that I really like -- some crested rose Stafford canaries)....

I think my finchaholic self is maybe beyond help (although... canaries are technically not finches so I guess I'm good after all!)

I put a mirror in the cage and they think it's another pair of birds intruding on their territory

I was just testing it out, to see what they would do.
It's no longer in there.
If the male gets upset he's being territorial.
If the hen gets upset, that means she bonded with the male
and she is being territorial also.
If she was looking at the mirror when the male was upset,
it could mean she is not pleased with the male she has and is looking for another.
So, I feel secure that they are bonded and will mate.

For now I will leave the basket thats in there.
The male has been busy filling the basket, so I don't want to disturb them.

from experience.... i would do the swap now... he will fill the new nest just as fast... promise

cubans LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE to BUILD!!!!

also you need to keep an eye on them.... he is in breeding mode... and if she is not it will end badly....

if she is not receptive then i would remove the whole nest and material...

wait a few weeks... then try again...

but still... IMHO.... i would take the wicker basket out asap....

weve lost more cubans to wicker than any other finch....

just trying to help

The new pair are getting used to their new home.
The little male is really a singer, way more than the first pair.
He will not be out done by my MULE or Green Singer!
