Re: Pics of Riff & Raff
jamezyboo21, That sounds like a nice plan, but for only 2 feet of space to fly back and forth in, you are planning way too many birds per flight, IMO. Finches need more lateral space than height for flying. For an 8 foot long flight, I would only split it into two sections for the number of birds you want. I would double the space you are planning and make two 8 foot flights that are each halved, or put way fewer birds in.

lovezebs Why does that happen? I've seen this happen a couple of other times, random posts from like 5 years ago, are all the sudden on the top of the board index list and look like they are a new post, so you comment on them....? Do you know why this happens? or maybe Sally.... do you know why?

As soon as a member posts on a topic, that topic then moves to the top of the list of new posts, no matter how old the topic may be. It is great that members are searching through old topics for information, as there is a lot to learn from these old topics. However, before posting comments or asking questions, members should check the dates on the posts to see if this is an old topic or something new. Members have come and gone. Often when you are searching posts, it is a good idea to check the status of the member before assuming they are still around. You can do this by clicking on that member's profile, which will tell you the date they last logged on. If it has been years, chances are that member is no longer active, and so will not respond to any questions.lnlovesorange wrote: lovezebs Why does that happen? Hi Ellen.
Our Sally already answered your question.
There is some great information on some of the older posts, and some sweet picturs, so going through them is great.
However, if it's an older post, check and see the date this member last posted. If it's a really long time, than the chances of them responding is next to zero.

I'm responding from my phone, so I didn't see the original date, nor did I think to look.

Post a new thread regarding this information if you would like to learn more
Paste the link to an older thread on your new post.

I'm Back..not really new
Its been a while since I been on here. A lot has happened since this post. I did build my aviary the 8ft long 6 ft tall and 2 ft wide. Also had a flight for the smaller species of finch. I had successfully bred all the species I had. I had Gouldians, stars, bronze wings, owls, Senegal fires, gold breast, cordon blues, parrot finches, zebras, societies, tri colored nuns, European golds, shafttails, Javas, and button quail.
I had to move due to family emergency and had to rehome all my finches. Now I have a huge house and have more then enough space to keep as many finches as I want. I still have the aviary. I need to fix it up. Right now I'm starting off with a flight 6ft long, 3 ft tall, and 3 ft wide. It currently houses 8 society finches and a male and 2 female button quail.
I plan on getting more finches of different species. I plan on fixing the aviary soon and adding more flights. The societies will eventually go in there own cages in pairs or trios and will be used as fosters if ever need be. My finches are pretty spoiled though and most likely won't need fosters.
I really missed my finches and couldn't wait too get back into the hobby of finch keeping. There is a huge bird fair coming up in July and I'm saving up everything so I can bring home a few. I plan on bringing back owls, stars, cordons, and fires. Maybe a few others. These are the ones I miss the most.
