In our case, we're just about maxed out on the # of critters we can take. We can provide for more, but not give each one the attention it deserves. It's not just about giving them life, it's also about maintaining a "quality" to their lives. The hamsters, rabbit, rats and mice need to be held, the cockatiel and love bird need near constant companionship (if the TV isn't on, lol), same goes for the dog and cats. We've had to pass up on some, but I make sure my daughter keeps an eye on them in the store. Just tonight when my daughter came home, she had a bagfull of black sailfin Mollie babies, possibly all infected with ICK. It never ends.
I'm really glad I found this site! I have 3 zebra finches (home-bred), a pair of orange-cheeked waxbills, a guinea pig, a 150 gallon salt tank that includes an 18inch moray eel and somewhere around 400 other fish (mostly fresh water). I teach HS Marine Bio & Environmental Studies and these animals are all in my classroom. I have 2 dogs & 2 cats at home.

Spice & Zebras
The Spice family (2 pair) are new to me. They're not nearly as nosey or pushy as the Zebras but they stand their ground. One male Spice sings very loudly but the other is so quiet you can hardly hear him. I call him Humble Spice. They haven't chosen mates yet. The Zebras, on the other hand, made a nest within a day of bringing them home. After moving the nest TWICE, they now have 4 eggs that are about 1 week old.

Inside: 1 great dane/mastiff mix, 1 cat, 1 zebra finch, 1 society, 1 lovebird, and 1 ferret
Outisde: 35 ringneck doves (anyone wanna buy one????), 12 goldfish (comets), 2 koi, and the occasional frog.

I've got 3 dogs ... yorkie, german wire haired pointer & a cairn terrier.
One dusky Pionus parrot, a chinchilla (my daughter's) a dozen fish in an outside pond & 9 hens in a coop in my backyard.
After babysitting my friend's zebra finches I'd really like to have some.
Husband say, "no, we have enough animals." HA! That just means I have to be a little more creative on how I go about it. LOL
