as soon as we know that there are young in a nest. all we tend to do is wait for the day they fledge. waiting for that day always seems to take forever

Once they are all out of the nest how long does it take for them to come into full color and determine the sex of the birds?

to attain full colour it can be a few months for gouldians. they must first go through a very heavy moult. some patches of colour may start to show sooner though and occasionly this will be enough to tell what sex a bird is

Colouring up of Gouldians generally takes anywhere from 3 months to 6 months. Sometimes they will get 'stuck in a moult' which means they won't fully colour up until their second annual moult.

Gouldians do not usually go back to the nest. I would remove it.

I am thinking you are correct.I dont think the first two that fledged a couple of days ago went back in the nest.

I always remove Gouldian nestboxes the same day the last baby has fledged. Congrats on getting them all to fledge. :)

I just got back in from my birdroom as I had some cleaning and feeding to do.I decide to pull down my cage with my 6 gouldians in it and take out the nestbox when I discovered that one of the chicks has only one eye.It seems to be flying around ok.

I know of a one-eyed Gouldian. He's perfect in every other way and beautiful too! Not to worry - he should manage just fine.
