Lesson 1 was my showing hubby how to feed JoeCool. Lesson 2 - hubby tried to feed JoeCool but JoeCool would have nothing to do with hubby. Poor guys - I think they got a little frustrated w/each other.

I will have to take JoeCool to work tomorrow and people will just have to understand. Most of them know I like and have birds and they think I'm crazy anyway so now they'll have proof - if he chirps too loudly.

He did open both his eyes tonight - just a slit but we could 'see' each other. I stuffed him well and he's now set for the night.

Good luck with it--fortunately, finch babies only make noise when they are hungry and ready for food, otherwise they sleep most of the time. Most people will be unaware that he is even there.

So far, so good - no one has noticed or heard him.

If it's not one thing, it's another. Now I'm very worried about one of his legs. A thigh has turned a very deep red. He still uses it to kick and even stand on but I keep thinking he's bleeding inside.

Hi Janine! I was at my sister's today for a visit and to talk about my mom (she's 83 and not getting any younger). My brother and sister-in-law were there too and we had a nice visit/chat.

I took Junior with me obviously so I could feed him through the day. I 'think' his right thigh is looking a little bit lighter in colour - not so reddish. The area that was such a deep (awful) red colour is a little smaller. The wrinkles around his legs are just that - wrinkles of his skin. There is NO threads or anything like that around his legs. I have pics from yesterday just after I fed him. The first pic shows him in his cuppy that I carry him around in. The wrinkles around his uppers legs are just that - wrinkles of his skin. There are NO threads or anything like that around his legs. Today I added cocofibre so he could get a better grip with his feet to avoid splayed legs. He is doing pretty good but doesn't really beg as much as I think he should (he never did beg much after the first gulp or two). I am adding soakseed to his diet again. Today he is 8 days old!

Yes his eyes are open a bit more today and his skin is getting a bit darker all over his back. I think he's doing great despite my fumbling along. He is 9 days old today and his pin feathers are getting so big on his wings. His thigh is looking better and better every time I get him for a feeding too. He stands up and flaps his wings quite a bit now.
