Green Singer females

For those of you who have GSs, do the females seem to be the agressive ones towards the males ? I had my male for over a year and half and several months ago I put a young female with him but she's been aggressive towards him most of the time. She sometimes chases him off whatever perch he seems to be sitting on for no reason. Or, if I give him a piece of lettuce she quickly jumps at him and steals it. Sometimes he feeds her but most of the time there's no interactions between the two. From what I remember, this was the same kind of behavour from another female I used to have with him before this one. My male is easily scared by other finches I put with him -including GS females- Sometimes I put the Cordon with him and he gets too scared when it gets close to him he just flies to another perch. I realised that any aggressiveness he sometimes displays towards other finches is purely out of fear since he thinks when other finches get close to him they want to fight him.
I'm wondering if my male is too weak -in personality- or something. He's very healthy and likes to sing and is not even that scared of me, but that's not the case with other finches.
Right now I have him in a big cage with the female but I think this guys is better off alone. He does sing non-stop ONLY when I take the female out and he seems to stick around the corner of the cage where the female is sitting in an adjacent cage -she does that too- but I don't know, once I put them back together it's a different story- mostly mute and inactive.

I have not noticed that with my Green Singers. They seem fine together and he has helped her through one clutch of eggs and now the chicks will fledge any minute. I've not noticed any agression with either of them. I hope your pair can figure it out. [-o<

I find that my females are the alphas. Sometimes they could be aggressive. Green Singers like to keep distance even during the breeding period and never sit side by side. Male can feed female, but they still sit and sleep apart. Some breeders keep them apart except for breeding period.
All my Green Singers are not afraid of other birds and could be pushy. They are generally peaceful to other species except for breeding period. However, there are very aggressive towards the same sex Green Singers.

It happens with my pair too when she gets mad that he doesn't protect the cage from other birds. She can be really mean. :x

I'm just trying to remember exactly what I did the first time she laid eggs so that I can do it again #-o I did change their cage to give them more space, now I am thinking that may I haven't covered the outside of the cage enough.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess females are the aggressive ones in general but I still think my male is kinda wimpy too. He freaks out if he sees a bird near him and immediately goes to another perch. I think I'm going to either keep the female in a separate cage or just sell her. I dont think these two will ever breed.

Lovemyfinch, the female did the same thing to the male one time. He flew in front of where she was sitting and she suddenly grabbed his wing and kept him hanging until I scared her into releasing him

Thank you! =D> Now I know it's not just my birds. I've only had my pair for about a month and was wondering the same thing. I have 9 feet long of cage and sometimes each they can be at either end - as far apart as possible. Other times she seems to tolerate him and lets him sit closer.

They are so different in personalities to the zebra finches who love to cuddle with their partners.
