When I was in Colorado, we went to the local Petsmart. They actually had a gouldian there! Very overpriced and not too healthy looking, though. They also had a shaft-tail. He/she was very pretty and kept whistling back to my mom (she can whistle and sound exactly like a bird. It's amazing! Unfortunately, I can't whistle a single note.) She really liked the bird, and I was wondering if they got along well with Gouldians?

I have seen shaft tails housed with gouldians before so I think it would be alright. My experience with shaft tails is that they can be a bit pushy to smaller birds. I tried housing my hen shaft tail with my cb male once and had to separate them because she kept chasing him around.

My Shaft-tail pair get along fine with my Goulds. I've never seen them act aggressive toward any of the other birds. They are best buddies with my Society pair.

My Shaft-tail is the sweetest bird. Never aggressive, very mellow personality. He loves our Society; they often preen each other.

Well, I have Societies too...and zebras. So if I ever get some, I'm sure they'll get along.

I had to separate my shafties from my other birds, and just now am trying to put the two of them in with my zebra hens. I figured if anybody could stand up to them, the zebras could! Found a shaftie pulling on the tail of a zebra, but that's the worst of it so far so am just keeping an eye on them.

You'll see they're in the "pushy" category in Crystal's Finch Information Center, and that seems to be what I hear from everybody except those in this forum! Maybe it's because I have two. I do love them, though - they are such striking birds, and I love the song.

Oh, I thought they were in the Passive category. Good to know, cause I wasnt my aviary to be peaceful, if that's even possible.
