What oh What to get... Please help me choose!

Post by FinchLady07 » Sat Jun 16, 2007 11:13 pm

So... I have A Spice and A Society in one cage. Now the only pet my mom is letting me get for my birthday is another finch.
But I am REALLY wanting a Zebra but they can be aggressive. So here are my choices so far:

Zebra
Spice
Socitey

I just LOVE the society so I'm leaning twards that but I just don't know.
Any ideas?
Finches:
Dot - Female Society
Speckles - ??? Spice

I would stay away from the Zebras and get another Society. Another Spice would probably work just as well.

I started out with Zebras and as much as I like them, I feel they are best kept with their own kind.

I agree with Tammie. Zebras are really funny but sometimes become territorial. Societies are really sweet and you can always get a different color mutation.

Good luck and post some pics when you buy one.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'm getting another Society. There is a Really Pretty Male at "The ish Man Pet Center" I think is really pretty. Even though I doubt He'll still be there because my Birthdday is August 1St. :(

You need to convince your mom to buy that finch NOW. :)

I voted for a spice finch, actually. I have 4 societies and 2 spice finches, and all 6 of them line up on the perch together. The spice finches just feel right at home with the societies anyway, and they are fantastic fliers - the fastest I've got!

You should convince her to let you get another society AND a spice. If you have a big enough cage, anyway. That way, neither one will be left out. :) I have zebras. They are cool, but annoying. They fight too much, even among their own kind.

I think another society is a good idea too...

...but we've never had trouble with our single zebra (have had 2) getting along with the rest of the mix...

I would go for either a spice, or a society.
Keep in mind both species mix well. I've had a cross bred spice society and he was so cute, but anyway, crossbreds aren't a good idea.
My crossbred flew himself dead the first evening I let him in his new, big aviary. I was devastated (sp?), and the other spice I have was devastated too, he still is. Poor thing...

But back on topic, I don't know how big the chance is they will cross, what do you people think?

I voted for a Society, because I haven't had Spices and so don't know enough about them. Societies are so laid back, they will take about anything. Zebras are great little birds, but they can really be aggressive, and the Society and Spice you have now may suffer. Another thing to keep in mind--having 3 birds can trigger quarrels, so you want to go with easy-going birds. A Zeb may decide he wants one best buddy and beat up the third bird.

Yea i had 3 parakeets once. 1 m and 2 fem. that happened though the one female was jealous of the good birdie so she wouldnt even let Jack and snow on the same perch. :(

I voted society too :) I would stay away from zebras too, they're also noisy in addition to being territorial. I really like owls, when I get back into finches I'll be probably starting with either spices, societies or owls. They're pretty darn cute :D

Wow, I'm surprised that Zebras have become so unpopular  - they were the talk of the town when I joined-up here. (what, a month or two back)
I really like mine, I don't find them noisy, I find their meeps and chirps to be very pleasant. To each his own I quess.

it's not that zebras are unpopular, it's that looking at what FL07's got already a zebra may not fit in well with those birds. The 2 species she has are known as passive and zebras are known as pushy so a zebra with her two might chase them around and bully them. If you enjoy you're zebras that's all that matters. I found them to be loud, but I also had 6 in a small apartment.
