I noticed today my GBW have eggs in their nest. The eggs look way too big for that tinny bird. I bet it was painful for the hen  .

Even though they have 2 eggs they are not sitting on them yet. How many more eggs i might see before they start sitting on them. I do have mixed aviary and hope they are GBW's eggs  .

Are they good parents? i just got a pair for society and was wondering if it be better fostering the eggs?

My pair of gold breasted waxbills have laid either 3 or 4 eggs each time. The eggs do look a little on the big side but cant really tell from the pic, but it looks like an open cup nest? My birds have always laid in a fully covered basket type or made their own, again with a roof.

Thats a wicker nest. You can see the opening and my goldbreast usually lay 4 eggs.

Do anyone have a pic of gold breasted wax-bill's egg? I think these two egg on the above picture might be from my parrot finch. The GBWs are still not sitting on the egg. There is no new egg and they are still mating. The hen parrot finch on the other hand have been repeatedly raped (at least that's how it looks to me) by the cock parrot finch. Also occasionally i have seen the parrot finch in that nest as well. Now how long can i wait before i foster those eggs to my society?

Sorry for too many question. I'm new at it :P

re the pic...yes I see it now (note to self..stronger glasses needed  )
Why would you want to foster the eggs? Cant the GBW raise the chicks themselves?

Hi Delta007,
Here is my picture with GBW eggs.

Eggs should be good for about 5 days after being laid, but I don't think society are good for fostering waxbills. :(

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the eggs look like they might be too big to be GB eggs. I'm trying to envision looking in the opening of a hooded wicker nest, and I'm thinking they should look smaller (GB eggs are really tiny). If they are Parrot finch eggs, the Societies would be more likely to foster than if they are GB eggs.
