This weekend I picked up some fawn zebras and Isabela/FFs. The girl had a fawn black cheek female, she bought one of my big darkly marked with wide flank markings to breed with her fawn black cheek.

I am also interested in trying to produce a Black cheek continental CFW as seen in this picture

Does anyone know of a sight with information or a chart that will help creating the different mutations for zebras including black cheek mutations?

Also if I take a fawn zebra and breed it to a black cheek could it produce fawn blackcheeks...the male would have to be fawn or carry the fawn gene...am I correct? The bird she had was striking with the fawn coloring and black cheeks.

I found charts on line a long time ago on line and can't seem to locate them now. I like the ones Garrie shows on the last site, it shows pictures of what the birds can actually look like. Perhaps ordering the book would be a nice early Christmas gift!!! (to myself)

I have no idea how familiar you are with zebra genetics but I think it is best to read a lot on the matter to understand the different mutations, what mutations work together and how to produce them.

There are two sites that have helped me a lot.

is of course a great site with a lot of information, and if you bother reading the articles on colour mutations, then you will learn a lot since they explain pretty much everything.

is really great too, if you want to check and see how sex linked, reseccive etc. mutations work with splits or normals or so on.

Lightback are more commonly bred with black cheek. And yes with sex linked stuff like fawn the male has to be split or fawn to get some, but best to have both parents split or fawn to make both sexes of the chicks fawn.
