Do Zebras bond for life?

Post by Missi » Tue Jul 03, 2007 2:13 pm

Yes, another Zeb question. I have seen answers both ways on different websites and book but since you guys seem so wonderfully knowledgable, I'll ask your advice.

Do Zebras bond for life? I ask because I original 2 always chase the 2 later introduced females away from each other. It's not just the original male or original female...it's both of them chasing both introduced away from each other!

Thank you. I hope I'm not asking TOO many questions and becoming a pest.

Here's my opinion - if the mate is still there, then the zebras recognize their mate, for sure. So outsiders are seen as intruders. But if you were to remove the mate, put in another one, they would pretty quickly get over their past mate and join up with the new one.
